I want to be able to log the temperature in several rooms, preferably on my computer so I can better manage my wood usage.

Why not get a Davis weather station: http://www.davisnet.com/
It can support multiple extra temperature sensors, it can be configured to record all data every minutes, or 15 minutes, or hour or however much data you want, and it can download the recorded data to your PC.
I think that knowing the outside temp and wind would be useful in your application.
Of course, the Davis stuff is seriously expensive.
You may want to check out the Carrier Control Network Service Tool.
It is costly however has nice graphics and trending abilities.
